DIY Boho Teapot Lantern Project: Finished Work n Photography DSLR

WHAT DOES IT MEAN?

I would like to distinctly distinguish and separate this from "crafts" or "arts & crafts" and present this as a work of art. The reason this is ART is because it means something. It has meaning, symbolism, and metaphor. It has philosophical meaning to it symbolically.

This was one an old broken, dented pewter teapot. A busted water vessel. It was viewed as junk, trash, useless, and ugly.

There's an old Shaolin proverb "To hate is like a water vessel with a hole in it. It carries nothing but pain & suffering.

But, THIS vessel did't hold it's own hate, it wa sthe hate & loathing of those viewing it.

Yet, I saw it, and saw myself.
The vessel is me.
The pot is me.

But, I drilled lots of holes in it... because now it is no longer a busted vessel, but a lantern.

In the Dao De Jing (Tao Te Ching) it makes mention of the emptiness of the home, the house, the door, the windows, that make it useful. Now, it doesn't hold fluid, but hold the lights, and lets the light out.

If the pot had NEVER been broken, and busted, it would NEVER have become a lantern. It would NEVER be a work of art appearing to pour light. It would never have become a work of art, and philosophical metaphor.

It was misunderstood. But, when I saw it, I understood myself, because I am not my misfotunes, or victimhood(s).

If the handle had NEVER been broken, It would never have become a project of gorgeously wrapped crystals & silver!

The crystals I wrapped with wire are called "healing crystals", and in its own way, the broken handle is now beyond healed. It's a metamorphosis into a piece of art.

Does the crack in THE LIBERTY BELL make it UGLY, or does it give it character?

I say it gives it character!

The hole need not be perfectly drilled, because it's still beautiful in it's uniqueness. It's misfortune didn't degrade it, but made it something something it would never have become.

But, I did not just make it for myself, I made it for you. Art is NOTHING unless it is shared, and SEEN. Now, all can see it, and enjoy it!

It's beauty can now become another tool for my photography art, and video.

But, also, now that I have made this, other can see how I have done it, why I have done it, and could opt to create their own, or something similar.

Since I OFTEN get this question:
HOW DID YOU GET THE SPARKLE EFFECT?

It's a really old school analogue technique. you get an old school star or cross filter and screw it onto the lens. The one I used is just a simple 4-point cross star filter, but there's many other ones, like 8 point, 16 point, etc.

You can buy them on Amazon. It's better to shop on 3 day Holiday weekends, national Holidays, and Cyber Monday because the cost is even cheaper, but they're not expensive anyway.

I almost never pay full price for analogue filters because I shop when they have sales. I have a lot, and I always want more.

Actually, you'll NEVER be able to get EXACTLY this type of effect in Photoshop, similar, but NOT THE SAME. It's shot on the fly, and is based on the angles of how the light waves pass through the filter. Photoshop can't do that, and each frame will differ. Also, for all the tie you spend trying to copy this effect in Photoshop, I could shot hundreds of frames, and all unique.

Sometimes post editing is a waste of time if you can do it better LIVE and in the moment with practiced technique, or sometimes spontaneous accidents. As much as I love Photoshop, I would NEVER use Photoshop to make a sparkle like these. The limitations of the analogue are what make it better.

I have not edited these at all, except to shrink the size (because I shoot on RAW) and to add the text. That's it. I also used a tripod.

Balcony Decor Raver's Boho w Disco Lights DSLR

By "Black UniGryphon" Kandice Kathleen Zimbleman

CANON   DSLR

So, a mixture of the stuff I like is Boho Chic with all kinds of fusion, and I ALSO love RAVE CULTURE. Yes. It's VERY ME.

I did a whole blog post about my Independence Day weekend this year n the internet went gaga over that stuff! My Instagram shot from under 300 followers to way over 500.... of course several dropped off because they realized I'm in my 30s and have a kid and a life... Whatevz...

Look, I know what I like. And, I do what I like. I'm an artist.

So, I put together this whole rave photo shoot the same night I shot the other stuff early this month.

The lights I have I got from Spencer's way back a while ago and I've used them in several photography experiments.

Summer Boho Balcony Decor Lantern w candle DSLR

 DSLR (CANON)

Here's my small gorgeous blue lantern from Pier 1 Imports I got for Christmas last year.

I shot these last week.

This lantern uses the small tea lights candles. I don't recommend the votive candles because they melt all over the place.

And, here's a few shots of this lantern this summer, recently on my Instagram:

Boho Chic Balcony Decor Lanterns w Candles n LED Lights (DSLR)

By "Black UniGryphon" Kandice Kathleen Zimbleman

I shot this last week at night here in New England.
DSLR CANON

In case you haven;t noticed, or didn't know already, I have this affinity for lanterns. I've liked lanterns for years, but never had the opportunity to ever get some until last year in the fall/autumn when I just happened to walk into Marshall's as nabbed 3 at bargain prices.

Then, I went nutsoid about some lanterns I saw at Pier 1 Imports a few weeks later when I happened to just walk-in over there, and I got a whole set of them in a whole series of events. You can read that story HERE and HERE if you want to.

Anyways, my so-called balcony on the first floor (since it's not really a patio, nor a porch) was something that bugged me since we got this condo. I've been working on it for years trying to do SOMETHING -Nay ANYTHING w/this thing. We used to be allowed to have a grill out there, and we had 3 different ones. But, stupid building admin board is headed by sadists so, no more cooking with fire anymore. *rolls eyes*

I never really thought I liked decor or decorating... until sometimes I find I kinda do... I guess I never realized it...

I still wish I could get a mosquito net and rig that up somehow, and hand stuff from the ceiling... but, hey, that's something I'm trying to work on, penny by penny because poverty blows chunks.

But, this year, I'm actually getting somewhere! This is probably THE CLOSEST I've ever gotten to my vision of what I want.

These are the 3 lanterns I got from Marshall's. The candles are from the dollar store, the incense & burner is some leftovers from my old store we used to own. The old vintage copper tray was from a yard sale Mr. Wang bought as a gift for me last summer.

There's no real rules for Boho Decor, Boho Style, or Gypset Style. It's generally a mixture of stuff, and many items from your various travels around the world, or various sentimental things, or old objects and a fusion of new things.

I like a mixture of old & new, East & West, often with a whimsical vibe. I like COLOR and vibrancy. I also like mood, ambience, and feeling.

I get more compliments on my so-called balcony on the first floor, that people actually say stuff as they walk by in the parking lot, when I come out the lobby door, or back door exit/entrance, and even when I take walks outside, or at the pool.

Oh, are you the one with that fancy set up on your balcony?  I like that!

Yes, that's me. And thank you.

The above uses a star filter or cross filter, or whatever you wanna call it. It's an old old old school analog trick from the old school SLR days, but I shot these digitally. I can't afford analog film.

Anyways, I shot most of these manually, but I can't remember which ones. I'm sure if you downloaded and saved the photo the stats are inside the digital image of you know how to look that up on your computer.

Gorgeous, Right? ^_^ I know!

And, here's the Instagram versions:

Boho Balcony Decor w Lanterns DSLR

There's no real rules to Boho Decor, or Gypset Style.

That antique teapot/pitcher I got from my father in in 2014 in New Jersey. It's  a Work In Progress project, but I did get another piece for it.

This display really came together really nicely. I wanted to showcase my gorgeous large lanterns I got from Pier 1 Imports.

I shot this shortly after sunset, and during the Olympic Games this year (2016).

I get compliments on my decor all the time for my so-called balcony on the first floor.

This is just one part/section of my so-called balcony on the first floor.

This set was very popular on Instagram.I still get likes for these photos that I published there.

I'm still hoping to get more items for the balcony to really make it more like my vision & wishes for it.

The flowers inside were from some craft gifts my daughter got from school when she finished for the summer.
