Inside My IKEA Lantern Exploring with a new AKASO EK7000 Action Camera Camcorder

I wasn't sure what I wanted for Christmas, and mostly I got nothing on that day, aside from a vaporizer, and some candy. But, my little brother sent me some cash which I held onto, and eventually my Aunt also sent me some stuff, including cash... Honestly I REALLY wanted to buy TOON BOOM HARMONY's software but I was $100 short to get a permanent license.

Since I'm a DP/DoP (Director of Photography) on an independent film now, cameras are even more so my life than ever. I had NO IDEA that I would end up in this position, and I'm always still learning as a filmmaker.

So, I really wanted a GoPro "Action Camera", because my father also wants to take my daughter & I to Ft. Lauderdale FL in March. But, those are  easily $400 a pop. Luckily, I know how to hold out and shop for deals on Amazon in Jan-Feb, and 3-day weekend national holidays (USA). That's how I buy nearly EVERYTHING I've ever invested in for camera equipment since 2010.

Action cameras are tiny camcorders, that also shoot stills. You can take them underwater, wear them, commit espionage (tee-hee), etc... So, I found a really comparable that in some ways was a bit better than an actual GoPro on Amazon: The AKASO EK7000 which shoots in 4K, but also can shoot 1080 at high speed up to 120 FPS! It has various exposures and ranges as well.

Inside my LANTERN:

I recommend most people DO NOT DO THIS AT HOME.

The timing on this was CRUCIAL!!!

A flaming candle is VERY HOT, and the camera is made of PLASTIC which can melt.

I literally only had less than 2 min to shoot this, and if it weren't a deep freeze WINTER, I would NEVER had attempted this.

First I tested to see if I could set the camera inside,
I set up the wireless configuration to my iPhone,
Took a test shot,
Lit the candle,
shot the video of myself closing the lantern door,
stopped recording, quickly switched to photo mode,
shot the stills,
abruptly opend & blew out the candles,
Then removed the battery to allow camera to cool down....

There's a SLIGHT mark where the flame JUST started to become a full sized candle flame, and began to melt it....

Action cameras DO CLAIM to handle extreme weather... but NOT FIRE.

Candles take a little while for the flame to become full sized and are usually small at first.

Again, I it were summer I would have NEVER DONE THIS.
NO WAY.

Actually, I don't think I will EVER do this again... but, I did get the shots...

Gypsetter Summer 2017 So Far

So, the main part of being a Gypset (or Gypsetter) is being an artist. they other part is wandering about, traveling, and dreaming...

Well, I've had a major mix of that happening in my life. Ever since I'd started applying the principles of Dao De Jing (Tao Te Ching) to my life since last year, I've been incredibly busy! I've been heavily into film-making including animation and motion graphics. You can actually see this applied in some of my films: Light Journal Film, and Smattering Thoughts Also Flow. Dao De Jing predates physics & psychology as a field of study and doesn't require a theology.

I'm still technically living within the poor class or poverty in the USA, but a number of circumstances brought me very rewarding experiences. Many of my wishes came true.

I had been wanting a French Press (coffee maker) for a few years. Well, my spouse was graduating this year from UMASS Boston with a BA in Art from the College of Liberal Arts. So, I helped him to get a large grant scholarship to travel to Japan, and YES he got it. Even tho' it was for him, I largely benefited from it myself. No I did not go to Japan with him because my daughter was still in school graduating from Middle School. But, I ended up with some cash and bought a French Press at Marshall's which is down the street from me.

Also, right before Mr. Wang left for Japan, an older gentleman crashed into our minivan and totaled it the day before he left for Japan. This had me driving rentals, and eventually we got a new car, and I got chiropractic care paid for due to injury.

Mr. Wang also got a ticket to fly back to China, from Japan, from his sister and when he came back I got quite a lot of gifts.

Also, my father wanted to spend time with myself and my daughter, and he & my brother got us Amtrack tickets, and we came down to Philadelphia where my father now lives with my brother. My father, brother, and my brother's girl friend were so incredibly generous to us, it's mind blowing! I picked beans in the garden, went swimming, went shopping, and worked on drilling my boho pewter pot project.

I also drove everyone to NJ from PA and we visited old spots like Rancocas Woods, and The Beach.

My father & brother were so generous to us, that I had a strange experience of after being asked to get whatever I wanted when we were at the Shore and thinking I didn't actually want anything, and that I was just happy to spend time with my family.

Do you want this? Do you want to do that?
Actually, I found I didn't... After so long of being so poor, and being without, and being thrust into so much generosity, I just found I didn't want anything other than being with the people I loved.

My dad was so loving, that I found myself often being grateful, and hugging my dad all the time. It was so different than being a kid in the 1980s and being at the Shore and my dad not wanting to let us play in the arcades and win Batman stuff. This time, he wanted to pay for ANYTHING, and I kind of didn't care about spending money, just hanging out with him and everyone else.

I also went out and shot stock footage/B-Roll video with my brother around Greater Philadelphia.

My life is way different than it was a few years ago.
